Construction on the city’s sewer project will present challenges for this weekend’s outdoor performances at Glendale Cemetery.
The free Heinz Poll Summer Dance Festival features GroundWorks DanceTheater on Friday and Saturday at 8:45pm, with an interactive children’s program beginning at 7:45pm. On Sunday, the Akron Symphony Orchestra performs a free concert at 7:30pm.
Access to Glendale cemetery from west Akron is available via Maple Street. Glendale Avenue is closed at West Market Street as are the Glendale parking lots. Paved lots at the top of the Locus Street hill on Wills Avenue have been made available to concert goers by Children’s Hospital. Free shuttles will be provided to the concert venue in the meadow at Glendale. Free parking is also available at businesses on West Exchange Street. Signs will direct traffic to all parking areas.
GroundWorks presents two innovative works for the 10 year anniversary festival including an adaptation of Carl Orff’s scenic cantata Carmina Burana. The Akron Symphony features a musical performance by North Hill’s Bhutanese community Sunday.
